WhatsApp: +86 18838072829I have a Barley Crusher mill and I like it just fine. I bought it because I was getting an inconsistent coarse crush from my LHBS. I brew BIAB so a finer crush was important to me and consistency was even more important to reliably reproduce the same beer. My gap is at .024 but once again I BIAB so the concept of a stuck sparge is foreign to me.

WhatsApp: +86 18838072829I really wanted to get a Monster Mill grain mill but I couldn't order one online. All the LHBS's in my part of the state only carry the Barley Crusher so that's what I wound up buying. It looks like a nice mill, and plenty of people seem to be happy with it so I expect it will serve me well. It comes from the factory supposedly preset at a .039 ...
WhatsApp: +86 18838072829The optimal gap will be affected by the knurling specific to each mill, so a reliable "standard" probably can't exist. If one has a mill, it usually comes with a recommended gap, a good place to start. fwiw, the recommended gap on the infamous Barley Crusher is .039". Cheers!
WhatsApp: +86 18838072829Apr 6, 2023. #2. Absolutely, adjust the gap to the kernel size. I always set the gap tighter for small kernel grain: " regular barley malt. " wheat malt and flaked goods. " rye, oat malt, flaked goods, etc. So I generally have to reset the gap once per milling session, small > wide or wide > small.
WhatsApp: +86 18838072829Using a standard 2roller homebrew mill, I crushed each malt using four different gap settings. The gap settings were mm, mm, mm and mm, and I used a feeler gauge to confirm these gap setting between each milling. After milling, I performed a grain sieve test on the different malts and crushes, and recorded all of the results ...

WhatsApp: +86 18838072829Learning what a good crush looks like and aiming for that every time is more important than the gap measurement. Even after you arrive at a setting that generally works well, you may find that you have to adjust the gap or do a double crush sometimes. For example, I use Rahr 2 row as my base barley malt ~60% of the time and Crisp MO ~40% of the ...

WhatsApp: +86 18838072829The finer you mill your grain, the higher your efficiency will be. I advise you to keep reducing the gap slightly every time you brew. If you have runoff problems open it back up a bit next time. Take a good look at your grist at that point and you'll know what you;re looking for from then on. Share.
WhatsApp: +86 18838072829Barley Crusher +1 Great mill backed by great customer service. Before I motorized it I was using a drill and accidentally dropped it, bending the shaft. Called them to see how much a replacement would cost he said to just send it it and he would fix it free of charge. Crushingly good service (sorry).

WhatsApp: +86 18838072829Re: the solder strip. That's a pretty good idea! UPDATE: So we adjusted the mill to a couple different settings that looked in the range, then compared the grind side by side using both Gambrinus ESB and GW Pale Ale malt. Found one that looked best overall on visual inspection and used it. Got 85% efficiency on a (19 plato) wort.

WhatsApp: +86 18838072829The Cereal Killer Grain Mill Hopper filled with about 7 lbs of malt. Grind on .025″ setting. Note that this particular grain bill is rice malt, so volumes and appearance may be a bit different vs barley. As of this update, I've used this mill for just over 2 years. I now understand the praise that this mill has been getting.
WhatsApp: +86 18838072829I'm using a Barley Crusher at the stock setting (forget what it is offhand). For an average strength beer ( OG) I generally get 90% efficiency with Rahr 2 row as the base malt. That can drop as low as 80% when using other base malts (Maris Otter, Pilsner, wheat). I often switch up what I'm using, and my average efficiency has been 84%.
WhatsApp: +86 18838072829The gap was back to factory setting. I tightened it back down to my preferred .030 gap. Will remain to be seen how long that oring lasts with that gap setting. Ran 9 lbs of grain through without a hitch. Picked up the grain and took off, crushed perfectly, no issue. I have to say I'm pretty pleased with performance of the unit now.

WhatsApp: +86 18838072829The Malt Muncher 3 is another great threeroller grain mill at a lower price point than the Monster Brewing Hardware option. WhatsApp: +86 18838072829Try tightening your gap, don't worry about how your crush looks relative to your old corona mill. I have used a barley crusher for about 4 years. I tightened mine up from the factory setting to about .032". It worked great and gave me great efficiency (8085%) for about three years and has been slowly wearing out over the last year or so.

WhatsApp: +86 18838072829Make sure you reset your mill gap width to the desired setting. With my Barley Crusher, the factory width setting is indicated by a pair of corresponding marks on the roller adjustment shaft and the mill body itself. I like to tighten the gap to just a hair past the marks, maybe 1/16 of a turn.
WhatsApp: +86 18838072829My grain mill came with a factory setting of inches (1 mm) and that gap setting works in my homebrewery. One more aspect worth mentioning is that some grains require differing gap settings. Heretofore I have only crushed barley malt (base malt, crystal malt, roasted malt) so the factory setting works.
WhatsApp: +86 18838072829In my case, consistency has nothing to do with it. The LHBS uses the same mill that I have (JSP) and give a good grind. But the LHBS is a 60+ mile round trip from home. I buy my malt from the LHBS, and buying 50 100 Kg at a time as whole malt doesn't go stale quickly, it paid for itself many times over with just the one trip.a.
